#GivingTuesday is today! Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.

Giving Back for #GivingTuesday

Many successful grassroots or social media campaigns celebrate the work that is already being done and encourages others to do more. We’ve seen this with our own #PowerYourLunchbox program, among others, and #GivingTuesday has definitely caught steam. If you weren’t participating last year, chances are you are today and above all, we thank you.

In the US, 46 million people turn to the Feeding America network to help put nutritious meals on their tables. 1 in 6 children may not know where they will get their next meal. It is so important now more than ever to step up our fight against hunger.

Today, on #GivingTuesday, I challenge you to make a commitment to take a few seconds or hours during the holiday season to help give back. Here are some ideas:

If you have 10 seconds…

Share the Produce for Kids’ Holiday Meal Drive Facebook post below and one meal will be donated to Feeding America!

If you have 10 minutes…

Look through your pantry for any non-perishable food that you can give or grab a few extra items next time you’re in the grocery store.

If you have 10 hours…

Volunteer at your local food bank and directly help those in your community struggling with hunger.

If you have 10 days…

Organize a food drive in your neighborhood, work, place of worship, or school.

Together we can end hunger in America and create a healthier generation.
