How to Pick Good Fruits for This Berry Melon Bruschetta

sliced cantaloupe

Cantaloupe

When it comes to picking a cantaloupe, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For starters, you want to make sure the cantaloupe is ripe. You can tell by giving it a little squeeze – if it’s too hard, it’s not ready yet. If it’s too soft, it’s past its prime. The perfect cantaloupe will have just a bit of give to it.

Another thing to look for is the color. A good cantaloupe will be mostly uniform in color, with maybe just a few darker spots. If the cantaloupe is mostly green or white, it’s not ripe yet. And finally, you want to smell the cantaloupe before you buy it. It should have a sweet aroma – if it doesn’t smell sweet, move on to the next one.

Watermelons

Watermelons are a summertime staple and there’s nothing quite like biting into a juicy, ripe one. But how do you pick a good watermelon? Here are a few tips:

When picking a watermelon, look for one that is uniform in shape and has dull, not shiny, rind. You should also give it a little thump – if it sounds hollow, it’s ripe. Another indicator of ripeness is a yellow spot on the watermelon where it rested on the ground.

When it comes to weight, heftier is better – watermelons are 92% water after all. And lastly, give your nose a sniff – if it smells sweet, you’ve found yourself a winner.

Strawberries

Washing Strawberries

When you’re at the grocery store, picking out the perfect strawberries can be tough. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best ones:

1. Look for bright, red berries that are free of blemishes.

2. Gently press on the strawberry to see if it’s ripe – it should give a little bit.

3. Avoid strawberries that have white or green spots, as these indicate they’re not ripe yet.

4. Smell the strawberry – it should smell sweet and fragrant. If it doesn’t smell good, it probably won’t taste good either.

5. Finally, take a look at the stem – it should be green and perky, not brown or wilted.
