We’re crazy for the Winter Games in our house and what better way to expand our love and support Team USA than by bringing the celebration home? Here are a few fun ideas to get your family started:
- Go Global! The Games bring athletes from all over the world to compete together. Why not pick a country to learn more about. Look online to learn facts about that country, where it is located, how far it is from where you live and more. What sport is most represented from that country? Share those facts with your family and friends so they can learn something new!
- International Foods. Keeping with the theme of going global, choose an international dish to prepare together with your family and serve. Think about inviting some friends or other families over for a potluck and ask them to bring a dish from a different country. It will be fun to see all the different cuisines come together just like the athletes!
- Themed Snacks. The five rings are one of the most recognizable symbols of the games. Choose fruits and vegetables in those colors to set the table! How about making a red, white and blue Fireworks Parfait or fun Triple Berry Banana Boats. Try creating an ice cream cone filled with carrot sticks or red, yellow and orange bell peppers or popped popcorn to represent the torch. Slice a bagel in half, spread with cream cheese and top with sliced vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers or black olives to represent the rings. Looking for more ideas? - Get Your Game On. Think beyond just colorful foods and come up with fun games that keep the Winter Games theme in mind. Use colorful buckets and create a bean bag toss or go outside and create a relay using a crafted torch made out of a paper towel tube and stuffed with some colorful tissue paper. You can even create rings out of cardboard or plastic and paint them in the signature colors for a ring toss. Use empty water bottles weighted down with a little sand as your targets and you’re good to go!
Bringing the Winter Games home is a lot of fun and a great way to cheer on the athletes who have worked so hard!
